Generating Leads on LinkedIn for Your Small Business

Alyson Scott • Sep 17, 2021

Are you generating leads on LinkedIn for your small business? It’s more than a job-hunting platform! LinkedIn is one of the best social media options for entrepreneurs looking to connect with other business owners. The key is to grow your network and create a quality audience that brings you qualified leads.

There is no one magic formula to grow your LinkedIn network – you get out of it what you put into it. It times time, effort and energy (either your time or paying someone to do it for you). The businesses that consistently see success and generate leads from LinkedIn dedicate time and energy to making it work.

LinkedIn for Lead Generation

LinkedIn is different from other social media platforms and works best for B2B lead generation. But ultimately, it is people connecting with people, and you never know where your next lead may come from!

  • LinkedIn is 277% more effective for lead generation than other social media networks
  • 80% of all B2B leads generated from social media come from LinkedIn
  • 92% of marketers prefer LinkedIn for B2B marketing than other platforms

Generating Leads on LinkedIn – 9 Keys to Success

1. Optimize your bio

  • Craft a bio that gets noticed to connect with potential leads – focus on what you have to offer and how you help your clients
  • Include keywords that people type in when looking for your product/services, and be sure to include those in your bio
  • Keep your about section easy to skim and scan, avoiding large blocks of text.
  • Keep everything you post customer-centric with an obvious benefit to the reader.
  • Fill out your profile in its entirety – you'll be much more likely to receive inquiries.

2. Define your ideal client

Who can benefit the most from what you have to offer? LinkedIn has advanced filters that allow you to search for your dream clients, so you are connecting with the people who fit within your target market.

3. Build connections

Reach out with an honest and authentic message asking to connect (keep it short and sweet with the focus on why they want to communicate with you).

A few options to ask for connections:

  • I see we both know _____, and I would love to connect with you as well.
  • I am also in the ____ industry. Do you do _____? It would be great if we could connect!
  • I recently watched your webinar or read your article on___ and thought it would be lovely to connect.

4. Investigate current contacts

Who are your current connections connected with? Spend a few minutes peaking through their contacts for anyone who would be a good fit for you.

5. Be active on the site

To get the most out of LinkedIn, you need to be present, helpful, and consistent. Regularly posting valuable content and commenting on other posts will keep your name in front of potential clients.

6. Join groups

You’ll find many groups on LinkedIn for small businesses, whether based on your industry, networking or specific to your city. Joining and being active in the groups can get your name in front of new people. You never know where a new connection may come from.

7. Write recommendations

Adding recommendations for the connections you know and have worked with personally shows you are involved and ready to share your experiences.  (And may lead to them returning the favour).

8. Be consistent

All good things take time! Generating leads on LinkedIn won’t happen overnight. Be consistent and show up every day; Small amounts add up over time.

 9. Nurture your leads

Once you connect with people who would be a good fit as a client, be sure to nurture the relationship. Be present, provide valuable content, share their posts, and generally be your fabulous self!

Generating leads on LinkedIn is possible with a bit of time and effort. Stay consistent and stick with it!

Save Time by Delegating Tasks to a Virtual Assistant. As a small business owner, there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done! Your time is precious, and not all tasks are created equally. Say goodbye to these top 6 time wasters for entrepreneurs so that you can focus on the most critical areas of your business. 6 Biggest Time Wasters for Entrepreneurs: 1. Meetings. Whether you meet with clients, vendors or employees, prioritize and respect your time. Does it need to be a full meeting, or would a quick call or email do the trick? Look for other, easier ways to communicate. And if you need a face-to-face or virtual meeting, set a boundary beforehand as to how much time you have to dedicate. 2. Online Distractions. Getting swept up in social media, checking your email, or reading texts can be a big distraction and time waster. Setting times to sort through your emails and messages can help you focus on the task at hand. 3. Routine and Repetitive Tasks. Not all tasks are created equally. What jobs can only YOU do in your business, and which tasks can you delegate? Try keeping a list for a week or two, jotting down all the things you do in a day, then look it over and see what tasks are eating up your time that could be passed off. 4. Outdated Tools. Using the right tool for the job can save you time and energy. A few of our favourite tools are Calendly and Acuity for scheduling meetings, Dubsado for customer management, and Mailchimp for email marketing. 5. Lack of Strategy and Systems. Does it feel like you’re spinning your wheels and not making any progress? Creating a strategy for growth with measurable goals will help create a clear direction in your business. While systems and routines help you make the most of your time by ensuring you are as efficient and productive as possible. 6. Overthinking and Second Guessing. One of our biggest time wasters as entrepreneurs (and a significant factor in holding ourselves back!) is second-guessing our actions, overthinking, and not taking chances. Once you’ve done the research, don’t be afraid to jump in! Second-guessing yourself, your choices, and your abilities will only you back. How a Virtual Assistant Can Help Save You Time Take on the repetitive tasks that consume your time and take you away from the work only YOU can do. Set you up with systems and strategies to help run your business as efficiently and effectively as possible. Introduce you to tools and new technologies to help make your life easier. Run interference with clients and vendors, so you only take on the necessary meetings and calls. You didn't become an entrepreneur to work 24/7 – be sure you aren't giving more of your time to your business than you need to. Say no to some of these big time wasters and set yourself up for success! Check out a list of what a Virtual Assistant can do for you!
