LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Clubhouse, TikTok. The options for social media
marketing can be overwhelming!
The key to making social media work for you? Always keep your target market in mind. Where are they showing up? How can you get in front of your ideal clients, introduce yourself, and make connections?
Being on every social media platform is a losing battle – there just aren’t enough hours in the day! You’ll be way more successful if you choose the right platform for your business and go all in.
LinkedIn Stands Out Among the Rest
LinkedIn is specifically designed for businesses and professionals and is one of the essential platforms for B2B marketing. Is your target market other businesses? Are you looking to connect with
professionals in your industry? Then LinkedIn is for you.
Because it’s one of the least ‘fun’ and social platforms, many people are intimidated by LinkedIn. It's got a reputation for being the Dad of social media. I promise that with a bit of effort and time, you will feel right at home!
1. Set up a business page and optimize your profile. Make the best use of your page with a
captivating summary that focuses on building trust and making connections. What problems do
you solve? How do you make your customers’ lives better? What proof can you give? How are
your skills, education and experience relevant to your target market?
2. Visuals matter! Make sure you have a current, professional headshot. If your photo is from 10
years ago and you look completely different when they meet you, it can raise a few eyebrows.
You want to make sure you start your client relationship on the right foot by building trust.
3. Extend those awesome photos to your posts. Even though it is a more educational and business-
based platform, your images still need to capture attention. Posts with visuals get 2 times higher
engagement.
4. Make your connection requests count. Focus on quality over quantity. Who fits your target
market? What businesses related to yours would be a good connection? Send a personalized
note with your connection request (no sales pitch!). Just a quick little "Would you like to
connect?" will do. If you have something in common, like the same industry, connection, or
networking group, you can briefly mention it. Just remember that it’s just an introduction at this
point - Keep it short and sweet and respectful of their time.
5. Create content and be active. Active LinkedIn pages see 5 times more page views. The number
one thing to remember when creating your content is to always keep your target market in
mind. What questions can you answer? What problems can you shed light on? Switch it up and
aim for variety, including videos, quotes, question and answer, or long-form posts. When you’re
short on time, share a blog post or article relevant to your target market.
6. Write articles. LinkedIn is a go-to platform for professionals looking for resources and education.
They have questions; you have answers. It's a great way to position yourself as an expert in your
field and make connections with people looking to learn more about your industry.
We all know social media is an excellent and cost-effective way of getting in front of your ideal clients.
But it's not a one size fits all solution. As with all marketing efforts, you get out of it what you put into it.
Invest time to create your strategy, make the most of the platforms you choose, stay consistent and give it time. Your efforts will pay off!
If you push past your fear and jump in, LinkedIn can be a great way to make connections, generate
leads, and grow your business. And we’re here for back-up if you need it!
