1. Know your audience.
The more you know about your reader, the easier it will be to craft content they love. Who are you writing for? Clearly define your ideal client – what do you know about their wants, needs, interests and questions? Keep a clear picture of them in your mind as you write.
2. Pick an engaging topic.
Now that you have a clear picture in your mind of your ideal client brainstorm ideas that will resonate with them. Engaging blog posts start with compelling topics! What do your ideal clients want to read?
3. Give an obvious benefit.
There’s a lot of content out there! Give people a reason to choose yours – why should they stop and spend time reading your post? Make it clear that they will gain something from reading your post. Will it make them better at their job, more effective, more productive, or is it just plain fun to read?
4. Craft a compelling headline.
On average, 8 out of 10 people read the headline, while only 2 out of 10 read the body copy. You want to quickly capture attention with a headline that gives them a reason to continue reading. Start strong and give them an obvious benefit - what will they gain from reading this post?
5. Make it visually appealing.
Large blocks of text look like a lot of work and can overwhelm your reader. Most people will skim and scan content for the main ideas before they read the whole thing.
Break up text with subheads, images, quote boxes, graphics, or bullet lists, making it easy to digest. Consider adding photos or infographics to make it visually appealing. And don't forget about white space – give your content room to breathe.
6. Keep it conversational.
Blog posts should be fun and easy to read. Write as you speak in a conversational tone. Use short sentences and paragraphs, contractions, and easy-to-read language, so readers can quickly absorb the info.
7. Give great value.
Make your blog posts as valuable as possible for your audience. Give away the good stuff – share your expertise, and be as helpful as possible to help your reader succeed. If they get a lot out of reading your posts, they'll remember that for next time and be more likely to read and engage with your future content. You want to become a resource for your target market.
Writing compelling blog posts that capture attention, provide value, and get you in front of your ideal clients is an incredible way to boost your online presence and build your 'know, like, trust' factor with potential clients. Content marketing is an excellent way to grow your business and consistently generate new leads.
